Akashic Records, Dreams, and DNA

Why do birds know to fly south for the winter? How do they know where to migrate? We all learn this in grade school: birds instinctively know that they have to fly south to a warmer climate in order to survive the winter. But how do they know that? What exactly is instinct?

The answers to these questions have always eluded me. Instinct is defined as a natural, internal, and typically fixed pattern of behavior. Does that mean it’s encoded onto DNA? What if migration is a memory? What if that memory belonged to the previous generations?

I’ve often speculated that ancestral memories could be passed down and that this somehow explains past life experiences. Perhaps someone claiming to remember a past life isn’t really remembering their own life from the past, but the life of an ancestor. Somehow, they are accessing an ancestor’s memory that has been encoded onto their DNA. Scientists are actually investigating this theory now.

There is a flaw with the genetic memory theory, however, at least in the case of past life experiences. Not all alleged past life memories are of people who have a blood relation to the person claiming to have the memory. What about the cases where the past lives were in other parts of the world, as people of different ethnicities? How could that be explained?

Often times, these memories are “recovered” or experienced while in the dream state, which is arguably just another realm of existence. In fact, it’s been suggested that people from different parts of the world have come up with the same inventions at the same time without having any knowledge of each other, and many of those ideas came to them in the form of a dream.

It has also been suggested that the Akashic records might exist somewhere in the universe. In fact, ancient alien theorists profess that extraterrestrials might have helped geniuses like Leonardo da Vinci, Albert Einstein, and Edgar Cayce to tap into this cosmic wellspring of knowledge through their dreams. ETs? Really? Why would they help us? What’s in it for them? While I don’t buy into that entire ET theory, there may be something to it.

What if everyone one of us has the inherent ability to tap into the Akashic records, but we’ve just forgotten how to do so? Those geniuses might have been the exception, whether or not they were aware of it. They may have rationalized that their ideas came through divine inspiration or they simply chalked them up to creativity instead of having obtained information from a mythical source.

Perhaps the Akashic records exist not out in the universe, but within each and every one of us – on our DNA. There is so much we don’t know about our DNA and much of what we can’t identify is written off as “junk” DNA. We’re not like that office chair or bicycle where extra bolts or screws are left over after it’s assembled. There is no “junk” DNA. It’s all there for a reason; we just don’t know what that reason might be.

It is also possible that those exceptional people have been tapping into a universal consciousness where all knowledge and memories are stored. I’ll take that one step further and propose that perhaps the Akashic hall of records is where our souls reside between incarnations. We take what we know and remember with us when our souls leave our dying physical bodies, and we share that with living souls on Earth who have the ability to connect with us on the ethereal plane. In this case, the actual knowledge may not be on the DNA, but the ability to find it might be.

What are your dreams about? Do you remember them when you wake up? Do you write them down so you won’t forget them? Are you able to understand your dreams? Have you ever had an incredible dream that haunted you for years? Have you ever had an epiphany upon waking because of some clever idea you envisioned in your dream?

Before you go to sleep tonight, put a notepad and a pen next to your bed. When you wake up in the morning, before you start thinking about all the things you have to do that day, remember your dream and write it down. Keep a journal and read it every now and then. You might be surprised as to what your dreams are trying to tell you.
